About the position

The Adoptions Case Manager I plays a crucial role in the South Carolina Department of Social Services by managing and directing the operations of a County DSS office. This position focuses on ensuring a safe and positive work environment while being accountable for financial operations and service delivery to clients through Child Welfare and Economic Service Programs. The role involves collaboration with community partners, oversight of agency policies, and management of staff performance to enhance service delivery for children, families, and vulnerable adults.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and direct the operations of a County DSS office.
  • Ensure a safe and positive work environment for staff and clients.
  • Accountable for financial operations and service delivery through Child Welfare and Economic Service Programs.
  • Maintain working relationships with service providers and present a positive agency image in the community.
  • Collaborate with community partners to create services for children, families, and adults.
  • Conduct Child Welfare Improvement Team meetings to identify service gaps and improve community partnerships.
  • Oversee timely implementation of agency policies and coach staff on policy application.
  • Manage system changes and evaluate current processes for improvement.
  • Review county data to inform practice patterns and procedural changes.
  • Facilitate meetings with service staff to review data trends and develop improvement strategies.
  • Support timely hiring, recruitment, and retention of county staff.
  • Provide performance evaluations for direct reports and participate in training new employees.
  • Engage in self-care to minimize secondary trauma and maintain mental health.
  • Coordinate emergency response duties as directed by the EOC.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of experience in social work, management, business administration, administrative services, or public administration; or a Master's Degree and two (2) years of experience in the same fields.
  • Valid driver's license.
