About the position
ADP is seeking a Senior Manager for Mainframe Application Development who will lead a team focused on production support and modernization of mainframe applications. This role requires strong technical expertise in mainframe technologies and Java development, with a commitment to enhancing processes and ensuring system reliability. The ideal candidate will foster a collaborative team environment while driving strategic initiatives to optimize application performance and scalability.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor the mainframe application development team, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
- Oversee all aspects of mainframe application design, development, testing, and deployment using technologies like COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.
- Drive modernization initiatives, integrating mainframe applications with contemporary technologies such as Java or cloud platforms.
- Lead multiple mainframe development projects, ensuring delivery within scope, budget, and timeline while meeting business objectives.
- Define and implement strategies to optimize mainframe applications for performance, scalability, and future requirements.
- Collaborate closely with business and IT leaders to gather requirements, align development priorities, and report on progress.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and performance enhancements to ensure high team efficiency and system reliability.
- Proactively identify development risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain system stability and meet business expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years in mainframe application development, with at least 5+ years in a leadership role managing mainframe development teams.
- Strong command of COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and experience in integrating mainframe applications with modern technologies like Java or cloud-based solutions.
- Proven experience leading teams, driving successful project outcomes, and collaborating across functional groups.
- Demonstrated ability to execute and oversee the transition of legacy systems to more modern, efficient architectures.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies, ITIL frameworks, or DevOps practices is a strong plus.
- Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts to business stakeholders and align development goals with organizational objectives.
