About the position

This position will work on basic skills with students in the HCC Healthcare, Medical Office Skills, and Computer Support programs. The role requires 20 hours per week plus various trainings (approximately 20 hours per week) in Atchison, Kansas. This position is funded through State grant monies and is subject to the availability of funds. The hourly rate of pay is $19.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an instructor by assisting students in the enrollment process.
  • Assess students to determine entry level and ongoing progress.
  • Develop a study plan for each student based on pre-test scores, course objectives, and student goals.
  • Hold classes for students based on a predetermined schedule in accordance with the HCC calendar and policies.
  • Provide quality instruction to ensure the best opportunity for students to learn.
  • Work with career and technical education (CTE) teachers to provide co-instructed pathway courses and contextualized instruction for the Accelerating Opportunities Kansas (AO-K) pathway programs.
  • Provide academic support for other pre-college or college classes.
  • Provide transition courses for adult learners.
  • Evaluate the performance of students throughout the course and make modifications when necessary.
  • Consult with the HCC Adult Education Program Director for questions related to the program.
  • Engage in recruitment and retention activities by providing information about programs and serving as a local contact person.
  • Conduct ongoing goal setting meetings with students and communicate with college staff for transitions.
  • Contact students who are not attending regularly to encourage participation and attendance.
  • Keep detailed and accurate records and submit necessary information to the HCC Adult Education Program Director.
  • Assist students with GED enrollment, college enrollment, or other transition services.
  • Be a member of the Kansas Adult Education Association (KAEA) and attend Adult Education Staff Development on the State and local level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field required.
  • Experience in teaching, training, counseling, or testing required.
  • Previous experience in adult education desired.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, tutors, groups, and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply them to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.

Benefits
