About the position

The Adult Protective Services Caseworker plays a crucial role in safeguarding incapacitated and dependent adults by conducting investigations into allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. This position involves assessing the need for public guardianship, coordinating support services, and advocating for clients while maintaining accurate case records. The role requires a blend of social work expertise and legal knowledge, as the caseworker may need to testify in court and navigate complex social service systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional social work for incapacitated and dependent adults, including investigations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Assess the need for public guardianship and complete necessary legal petitions.
  • Investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation, interviewing clients and collateral contacts.
  • Document all investigation activities in case notes and maintain accurate case records.
  • Advocate for and coordinate the provision of services for clients.
  • Exercise discretion in decision-making during investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work/Social Welfare or a related field with at least 12 courses in behavioral or social sciences.
  • Eligibility for conditional or full licensure as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in Maine.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with incapacitated and dependent adults.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in court testimony related to social work cases.
  • Familiarity with community resources and support services for vulnerable adults.
