About the position

The Adult Respiratory Therapist at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is responsible for evaluating, administering, and documenting various respiratory therapy treatments for patients with heart and lung abnormalities. This role involves working in both ambulatory and non-ambulatory settings, including intensive care and emergency rooms, and requires the setup and monitoring of complex respiratory equipment. The therapist will also provide resuscitation services, participate in educational programs, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the department.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and administer respiratory therapy treatments to patients with heart and lung abnormalities.
• Set up and monitor complex respiratory equipment such as volume and pressure ventilators.
• Perform routine respiratory therapy treatments including oxygen therapy, therapeutic aerosols, and airway care.
• Monitor patients for adverse reactions and take corrective actions as necessary.
• Document all work activity and billing charges in the applicable computer system.
• Participate in the transfer of equipment and supplies between departments and maintain equipment cleanliness.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and competence in communication with diverse patient populations.
• Provide educational and orientation services to students and participate in quality improvement projects.

Requirements

• Graduation from an approved school of Respiratory Therapy.
• One year of recent clinical experience in Respiratory Care.
• License to practice as a respiratory care practitioner through the Washington State Department of Health.
• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification.
• Current healthcare provider BLS Certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification within six months of hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within six months of hire.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification within six months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

• Work experience in a specialty area of respiratory therapy is preferred.
