About the position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Orthopedics is responsible for the comprehensive management of orthopedic patients, coordinating care with medical and surgical specialty teams. This role involves performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, participating in patient education, and managing discharge planning. The APP will work closely with residents and medical/nursing students, ensuring high-quality care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities

  • Manage comprehensive and individualized care for orthopedic patients and their families in the inpatient phase of hospitalization and immediate post-discharge and in the ambulatory setting.
  • Complete daily rounds and consults, and perform pre-procedure evaluations as applicable.
  • Participate in peri-operative patient care, which may include first assisting in the operative suite.
  • Coordinate involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams to develop comprehensive patient care plans.
  • Review and direct the plan of care with other members of the clinical team.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master's Degree in Nursing (for Nurse Practitioner).
  • National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers (for Nurse Practitioner).
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia (for Nurse Practitioner).
  • Bachelor's Degree as Physician Assistant or Master's Degree as Physician Assistant required (for Physician Assistant).
  • Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant training program required (for Physician Assistant).
  • Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required (for Physician Assistant).
  • BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at the discretion of the department.

Nice-to-haves

  • Acute care, surgical or orthopedic experience preferred (for both Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant).
  • Master's level degree as Physician Assistant preferred.
