Advanced Applications Engineer

Our company is looking for a highly motivated, self-starting individual to fill an opening in our Birmingham location. Our company specializes in boiler and boiler related equipment sales, service, and repair, with Sales & Service offices in Georgia and Tennessee with the supporting Engineering office in the Birmingham area. The position classification within our company is that of an Advanced Applications Engineer. Below is a list of the duties, responsibilities & required qualifications necessary to be considered for employment. Role and Responsibilities * Review plans and specifications to generate proposals. * Read and understand wiring and P&I diagrams. * Understand and apply knowledge of how instrumentation is used in a process. * Understand how PLC's are used to control industrial equipment. * Understand network communications and be able to troubleshoot issues that affect industrial PLC's. * Prepare submittals per the customer/spec requirements. * Perform design calculations and prepare equipment or parts selection. * Analyze boiler system parameters to design for system optimization and/or requirements. * Generate specifications for equipment selected. * Generate proposals for outside sales review prior to going to the customer. * Place orders with vendors on equipment sold with assistance from the Engineering group. * Generate designs using CAD * Assignments require the investigation of a number of variables and supervisory assistance is provided on unusual problems. * Answer technical questions from either the salesmen or anyone else within the company or outside. * Perform training presentations using PowerPoint on various topics related to products and systems. * Assist in troubleshoot service issues in the field. * Be able to communicate on any level the technical aspects of the equipment being sold or worked on. * Works closely with Sales, Parts, Service and Billing in total project assistance from quoting to invoicing as required. * Reasonable, reliable attendance. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Education Requirements * Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. * Electrical Wiring Diagram, Controls and Networking Experience * Pumps and piping systems experience * Minimum 3-5 years of experience. * MicroStation/CAD experience. Preferred Skills * Technical knowledge of hydronic systems (design, engineering, etc.) * Technical knowledge of boiler systems (design, engineering, etc.) * Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office * Ability to maneuver through different computer software programs * Efficient * Organized * Good communication skills * Ability to multi-task * Must have a can/will attitude * Problem solving skills * Willingness to adapt to change * Ability to self-direct and work independently * Initiative * Must possess a strong desire to learn * Ability to travel as required (<20%)</li> * Knowledge of CRM software * Ethical conduct Physical Requirements of Job * Occasionally required to stand or walk; sit at a desk up to 8 hours a day. * Ability to work in a controlled climate (68-72 degrees). * Occasionally required to lift or move up to 25 pounds. * Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. * Reach with hands and arms; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. * Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Additional Notes * Travel for training may be required. * This job operates in a professional office environment. * The job schedule is Monday thru Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. * Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions. * Conform with all safety rules. * Safety training is required for all positions.
