About the position

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a Chemical Engineer to join the Materials Manufacturing area, focusing on the research and testing of nuclear fuel, poison, and cladding materials. This role involves collaboration with various engineering and compliance teams to conduct test programs, design and manufacture laboratory equipment, and develop unique materials systems. The position is hands-on and requires a dynamic approach to problem-solving in a laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Working within a team of engineering, laboratory, facility, and compliance organizations to enable and conduct test programs.
  • Planning, designing, modeling/analyzing, manufacturing, and deploying laboratory equipment which includes nuclear, chemical, mechanical, structural, and electrical components and systems.
  • Development and fabrication of unique materials systems up to and including small scale production demonstration.
  • Documenting progress, analyzing results, and conducting presentations as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or
  • PhD degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related; or
  • Currently or previously NPE qualified; or
  • CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
  • Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.
