About the position

The Advanced EMT position at Acadian Ambulance involves providing timely and efficient pre-hospital advanced and basic life support care and transportation for the sick and injured. The role requires adherence to local, state, national, and company standards of practice, ensuring patient safety and effective communication with medical personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct careful examinations of patients for signs and symptoms of illness/injury.
  • Administer prompt and efficient basic and advanced life support care within licensure limits and approved protocols.
  • Provide safe and efficient transport of patients in the ambulance to medical facilities.
  • Document all aspects of patient condition and treatment on EMS run reports.
  • Conduct regular unit inventory and equipment testing to ensure all equipment is present and in working order.
  • Responsible for the proper use of the ambulance's basic life support equipment.
  • Document and report all needed repairs to maintenance departments and supervisors.
  • In the absence of qualified personnel, use basic extrication tools and procedures to access patients.
  • Control the patient's surroundings to minimize danger and manage bystanders' actions.
  • Operate the ambulance safely and efficiently, following company driving guidelines.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and complete assigned station duties.
  • Order supplies and equipment to replenish inventories as needed.
  • Complete all required company reports and logs.
  • Precept new employees and EMT students if approved as a preceptor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • National and/or State certification as an Advanced EMT as per state requirements.
  • Current CPR certification established by the American Heart Association.
  • Current and valid state-issued driver's license (equivalent of a Louisiana Class 'D' driver's license).
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate professionally and effectively.
  • Knowledge of company protocols, operational procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in emergency medical services or related fields.
  • Advanced training in emergency medical care or related certifications.
