About the position

The Advanced Lead Engineer - PD Mechanical Design at GE Aviation plays a pivotal role in the preliminary design of advanced engine systems. This position encompasses various aspects of engine design, including turbomachinery layout, weight and cost estimation, and trade studies. The engineer will take ownership of the design of modules and systems, contributing to the development of the preliminary design cross-section. The role requires collaboration with a design team to create innovative design concepts that meet stringent cost and performance targets for next-generation engine applications. Additionally, the Advanced Lead Engineer will lead multi-functional and global teams to devise optimal systems-level solutions to emerging challenges in advanced commercial programs, influencing technology choices for future engines. In this capacity, the Advanced Lead Engineer will integrate and develop processes that align with business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within their area of expertise, and contribute to long-term planning and overall business strategy. Responsibilities include working with focal points across Aerospace to shape cross-section, weight, cost, and maintenance strategies, coordinating with global teams and business partners to deliver technical solutions, and supporting cross-section development for preliminary design architecture studies. The engineer will also lead the preliminary design of modules and systems, conduct durability, weight, or cost reviews, and develop parametric tools for design space exploration and optimization studies. Establishing new processes and standard work to ensure efficient deliverables, identifying new inventions, and preparing disclosures to protect competitive advantages are also key aspects of this role. The Advanced Lead Engineer will guide early career engineers, recommend technical approaches, and ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for assigned projects, while monitoring project status and participating in technical and program reviews.
