At Apple, we are looking for a dedicated and innovative engineer responsible for designing precision assembly and measurement processes for our products. This role involves performing research and development on new technologies that address complex assembly and automation challenges, which directly impact the quality and delivery of Apple products. The successful candidate will design, implement, and scale automated and semi-automated solutions based on sound engineering principles tailored for specific applications. The engineer will be tasked with developing new or improved processes through the application of both theoretical and practical engineering. Staying updated on significant technical trends and developments is crucial, as this knowledge will be incorporated into relevant assignments. The role also includes providing direction and mentorship to third-party machine and automation suppliers, acting as the technical leader on owned projects, and serving as a technical resource for other engineering groups and project leaders. Organizing cross-functional reviews of machine requirements, design, qualification, and capability is a key responsibility. The engineer will create Requests for Quotation/Proposal (RFQ/RFPs) that document the design requirements of automated equipment, including delivery schedules and necessary documentation for acceptance at machine supplier facilities and contract manufacturers' factories. Engaging with machine suppliers for design reviews and proposals is essential, as is traveling to these suppliers and contract manufacturers for equipment bring-up, qualification, acceptance testing, and support during build events. The role requires driving machine qualification, including correlation, process capability (CP/CPK), and Gage Repeatability/Reproducibility (GR&R). The engineer will also be responsible for failure analysis and machine issue resolution in collaboration with machine suppliers and contract manufacturers. Running equipment experiments to assess machine capability and preparing data analysis reports to communicate findings to multi-functional teams are also part of the job. The engineer will perform assignments across various manufacturing engineering functions, including Design for Manufacturability, Product Engineering, and Process Engineering, ensuring that new products are mechanically manufacturable and that complex processes are designed to improve quality and efficiency.
