About the position

Schneider Electric USA, Inc. is seeking an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer specializing in Automation & IT to join our team in Franklin, TN. This role is pivotal in delivering automation and technology improvements to manufacturing processes across the North American Region. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and driving enhancements in the capacity of existing assembly and testing equipment or processes. This includes the design and development of new assembly lines and testers, ensuring that all technical specifications for equipment, processes, or production lines are meticulously created. The role emphasizes the importance of automation standards, safety, and the implementation of the best available technologies, all while adhering to lean manufacturing principles. In this position, you will design new processes utilizing the line architecture design methodology, taking into account critical factors such as demand, flow, material handling, layout, lean manufacturing, key performance indicators (KPIs), and overall industrial strategy. A significant aspect of the role involves developing PLC code for new equipment, particularly for high-speed automation machines, which includes working with components such as servo drives, sensors, and cylinders. Additionally, you will be expected to read and design electrical and mechanical diagrams for automated equipment, ensuring that all designs meet the required specifications. The position allows for up to two days of remote work per week and requires approximately 45% travel, which includes 20% domestic and 25% international travel to company sites and automation suppliers to support various projects throughout North America.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver automation and technology improvements to manufacturing processes across the North American Region.
  • Identify and drive improvements and capacity of existing assembly and testing equipment or processes.
  • Design and develop new assembly lines and testers.
  • Create detailed technical specifications for equipment, processes, or production lines, including automation standards and safety protocols.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing principles in the design of new processes using line architecture design methodology.
  • Develop PLC code for new equipment, including high-speed automation machines with components such as servo drives, sensors, and cylinders.
  • Read and design electrical and mechanical diagrams for automated equipment.
  • Manage projects, including prototype development, manufacturing support, and return goods root cause analysis.
  • Develop in-house automation using Digital Technology, IIoT, Machine Learning, and Virtual Reality.

Requirements

  • Masters or Bachelors degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronic Engineering, or related field.
  • Progressive, post-Bachelors experience (3 years with Masters or 5 years with Bachelors) in automation industry assembly line design and deployment, or related occupation.
  • Experience in creating detailed technical specifications for production lines, including automation standards and safety protocols using lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience in designing new processes using line architecture design methodology, considering demand, flow, material handling, layout, Lean manufacturing, KPIs, and Industrial strategy.
  • Experience in developing PLC code for new equipment.
  • Experience in writing code for high-speed automation machines, including components such as servo drives, sensors, and cylinders.
  • Experience in reading and designing electrical and mechanical diagrams for automated equipment.
  • Experience in managing projects, including prototype development, manufacturing support, and return goods root cause analysis.
  • Experience in developing in-house automation using Digital Technology, IIoT, Machine Learning, and Virtual Reality.
