About the position

As an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer at Hunter Engineering, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of advanced manufacturing processes and fixtures. This position is based at our headquarters in Bridgeton, Missouri, where you will be part of a family-owned company that has been a leader in the industry since 1946. Hunter Engineering specializes in wheel alignment systems, wheel balancing systems, and vehicle inspection systems, with our equipment being utilized by vehicle manufacturers, tire companies, and dealers in over 130 countries. In this role, you will be responsible for developing hardware, software, and user interfaces for custom factory test stations. This may involve programming in languages such as C/C++/C#, LabVIEW, QT, and Python. You will also design, program, and troubleshoot factory automation systems, which include PLCs, HMIs, and robotic cells. Your expertise will be essential in generating schematics and drawings for control systems, performing pneumatic assembly and electrical wiring, and overseeing equipment builds, qualifications, and implementations. Collaboration with Manufacturing Engineers across all manufacturing sites will be key, as you investigate new technologies to meet manufacturing process needs and conduct DFMA analysis on both new and existing products. Additionally, you will provide technical advice and support for Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and R&D Engineering, assist in troubleshooting existing production equipment, and take on other assignments as deemed appropriate by your supervisor or manager. Occasional travel may be required to support project deployment, making flexibility an important aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop hardware, software, and user interface for custom factory test stations using C/C++/C#, LabVIEW, QT, and Python.
  • Design, program, and troubleshoot factory automation systems using PLCs, HMI, and robotic cells.
  • Generate schematics and drawings for control systems.
  • Perform pneumatic assembly and electrical wiring.
  • Oversee equipment builds, qualifications, and implementations.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers at all manufacturing sites.
  • Investigate new technologies for manufacturing process needs.
  • Conduct DFMA analysis of both new and existing products.
  • Provide technical advice and support for AME and R&D Engineering.
  • Assist in troubleshooting existing production equipment.
  • Complete other assignments as deemed appropriate by the supervisor or manager.
  • Occasional travel required to support project deployment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience; 1-3 years preferred, with 3+ years being ideal.
  • Broad understanding of programming and hardware.
  • Experience with standard programming languages like C/C++/C#, Python, etc.
  • Experience creating GUI apps using LabVIEW or QT.
  • PLC and HMI programming and diagnostics experience.
  • Strong leadership skills in a collaborative environment.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Effective communication skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience assisting with NPIs.
  • 2D AutoCAD and schematic creation experience.
  • Powered holding and test equipment design experience.
  • Experience with robotic and automated cells is preferred.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software, preferably Creo.
  • Capital equipment procurement experience is preferred.
