About the position

The Advanced Regional Manufacturing Engineer - Product Assembly is a pivotal role at Baltimore Aircoil Company, responsible for overseeing the management of product assembly and supporting feeder processes. This position is crucial for ensuring that the manufacturing processes are ready for growth, both financially and operationally. The engineer will leverage their deep knowledge and expertise in product assembly, design for manufacturing and assembly, lean manufacturing, and process development to drive improvements and efficiencies across the Americas region. In this role, the engineer will lead efforts to define, standardize, and optimize assembly processes and technology launches within the Americas manufacturing plants. This will involve collaboration with New Product Development programs and continuous improvement projects. The engineer will also be responsible for designing and modifying product assembly lines and feeder processes to meet the necessary capacity and capability requirements, ensuring that material flow is optimized for manufacturing efficiency. The engineer will utilize lean manufacturing principles and tools, including takt and cycle time analysis, value stream mapping, and CAD layouts, to align with Global Assembly Standards. They will also support the design and documentation of assembly fixtures and product packaging processes, ensuring that all assembly operations adhere to ergonomics and safety standards. Additionally, the engineer will facilitate design guidance and process reviews for new technologies, working closely with factory teams to maintain and develop assembly-related processes and specifications. The role requires effective management of capital and expense plans, ensuring that manufacturing capacity aligns with business growth strategies. The engineer will also be responsible for change management related to process design and will partner with operations and manufacturing plants to drive performance improvements. Collaboration with global and regional manufacturing engineering functions will be essential to harmonize and standardize processes across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Americas region to define, standardize, and optimize assembly processes and related technology launches into the Americas manufacturing plants.
  • Lead development and implementation efforts to design or modify product assembly lines and feeder processes to meet capacity and capability requirements.
  • Lead material flow definition and analysis efforts to ensure optimal factory manufacturing flow.
  • Lead development and optimization of process sequencing and line balancing.
  • Use lean manufacturing principles and tools such as takt and cycle time, value stream mapping, 2D & 3D CAD layouts, and process simulation in alignment with Global Assembly Standards.
  • Lead and support assembly fixture design, documentation, and cataloging.
  • Support product packaging design and manufacturing process definition and implementation.
  • Ensure assembly processes adhere to ergonomics and safety standards.
  • Facilitate and drive Americas manufacturing design guidance (DFMA) and process reviews (PFMEA) for new processes and technologies.
  • Develop and implement plans and projects to ensure that manufacturing capacity and capability meets the needs of business plans and growth strategies.
  • Participate and assist in the procurement and application of assembly related fixtures, tools, machines, and equipment.
  • Effectively manage allocated Capital and expense plans for current year and development of plans tied to growth strategies and business plans.
  • Responsible for the process related change management post-design and measure adherence of optimal existing process definitions.
  • Responsible for the manufacturing documentation associated with process standards, acceptable tolerances, performance data, and process related operating procedures.
  • Key partner with Operations and the manufacturing plants on shared initiatives and goals that drive improved manufacturing performance through growth and key performance measures.
  • Partner with other Global and Regional manufacturing engineering functions to drive harmonization and standardization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline; Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical preferred.
  • 7 years of experience in like industry with focus on mechanical assembly, sheet metal fabrication preferred.
  • Experience with design of assembly lines to ensure balanced flow that meets capacity and capability requirements.
  • Experience with employing continuous improvement tools, including Lean, in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated strong engineering skills, including 2D/3D CAD design, GD&T, and complex fixture design.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data collection, analysis, presentation, and decision making.
  • Experience with DFMA, PFMEA, and ergonomics.
  • Experience with assembly line simulation principles and tools preferred.
  • Experience with industrial equipment, automation & IoT preferred.
  • Experience with large product packaging design preferred.
