About the position

The person hired for this position will support technology, process, materials, and product development activities for polymeric optical films. The ideal candidate will perform well in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and is able to manage multiple projects effectively while collaborating with personnel in divisions, manufacturing, and corporate research labs. It is expected that the person in this position will design, conduct, troubleshoot, and provide coverage for film experiments at the pilot plant facility and manufacturing plants outside of St. Paul. As a Manufacturing Technology Engineer for Film Processing, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Leading process improvements or process development technology teams within our film platform.
  • Identifying and implementing new process technologies for new and existing 3M processes to improve capability, improve product yield, and reduce cost.
  • Supporting process troubleshooting by working with cross-functional teams to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Supporting or leading process development efforts with cross-functional teams to ensure successful development, scale-up, and launch of new products.
  • Participating in the development and execution of film processing technology platform strategic plans.
  • Providing necessary support to operations and divisions through travel and flexible hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering, materials, and/or science discipline (completed and verified prior to start).
  • One (1) year combined laboratory, manufacturing, pilot plant, and/or production environment experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three (3) year combined laboratory, manufacturing, pilot plant, and/or production environment experience in a private, public, government or military environment.
  • Background in multilayer extrusion process.
  • Experience in film process development, materials development and optics.
  • Experience with oriented film manufacturing processes (extrusion, orientation, web handling).
  • Capable of providing hands on process troubleshooting.
  • Independent, high energy, positive approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in leading projects.
