About the position

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position serves as a clinic clerk within the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) Radiology department. This role is foundational in providing assistance to Veterans by managing outpatient appointments and supporting the care and treatment provided by the interdisciplinary team. The position requires effective communication and coordination with various stakeholders to ensure a smooth operational flow in the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Veterans in managing their outpatient appointments.
  • Support the interdisciplinary care delivery for specialty care services.
  • Monitor clinic setup and make necessary adjustments to support clinic needs.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with patients and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Review clinic appointment schedules to optimize utilization and support Veterans' needs.
  • Participate in team meetings to provide input on operational issues and procedures.
  • Perform administrative follow-up actions and evaluate patient information for appointment eligibility.
  • Communicate tactfully and effectively with internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Six months of experience in clerical, office, customer service, or administrative work.
  • One year above high school education or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-5 level, including scheduling and monitoring appointments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with computerized data entry and information processing systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures related to healthcare delivery.
