About the position

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) in the Home Telehealth (HT) Program plays a crucial role in enhancing communication between Veterans, their families, and healthcare providers through various Telehealth technologies. This position primarily supports the VA Video Connect (VVC) Program by managing appointments, assisting with technology screenings, and ensuring effective coordination of care for patients. The AMSA is responsible for administrative tasks that facilitate the delivery of telehealth services, ultimately aiming to improve patient access and care quality.

Responsibilities

  • Manage data and assist with coordination of schedules for patients, providers, and locations.
  • Receive and screen telephone calls and visitors to determine the nature of the business.
  • Refer urgent inquiries to professional staff for immediate actions.
  • Disseminate administrative and technical information to callers.
  • Respond to inquiries from patients, family members, and caregivers.
  • Coordinate activities of the service/program with medical support services throughout the organization.
  • Educate patients on the VVC program and complete tech screening notes.
  • Create appropriate training settings using interactive technology and demonstrate knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Schedule patients for their VVC test call and provider appointments within Primary care.
  • Coordinate information between the Medical Center and Community Outpatient Based Clinics (CBOC) to expedite patient access.
  • Identify and recommend ways to improve procedures and processes of the Telehealth Program.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Analyze workflow to determine potential problem areas and recommend corrective actions.
  • Deal effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Perform clerical work in support of patient care, either in person or via telephone.
  • Track all consults for scheduling timeliness and completion.
  • Manage reporting data regarding active and discharged patients.
  • Prepare and submit Travel and Training Requests.
  • Organize minutes from monthly staff meetings for the Telehealth Committee.
  • Maintain the Telehealth Schedule, collaborating appointments for patients, meetings, and conference calls.
  • Input required data into the Telehealth database.
  • Submit requests for the purchase of supplies needed for the Telehealth Program and maintain an inventory.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Six months of experience in clerical, office, customer service, or administrative work.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Ability to serve a probationary period and undergo a background/security investigation.
