About the position

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) plays a crucial role in the administrative aspects of patient care at the Minot CBOC VA Medical Center in Fargo. This position focuses on enhancing patient access and scheduling, managing demographic and insurance information, and ensuring effective communication within the patient care team. The AMSA is responsible for coordinating appointments, managing the Electronic Waiting List, and providing excellent customer service to veterans and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize advanced clinic access principles to schedule and coordinate patient appointments across multiple clinics and specialties.
  • Collect and update patient demographic and insurance information accurately.
  • Manage the Electronic Waiting List and ensure timely patient processing.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, interdisciplinary teams, and external agencies regarding patient care and follow-up.
  • Participate in team huddles and meetings to discuss patient care and operational improvements.
  • Monitor appointment requests and process incoming patient secure messaging.
  • Assist in reinforcing the plan of care and self-help solutions for patients.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Six months of experience in clerical, office, customer service, or administrative work, or one year above high school, or a combination of experience and education.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Ability to operate computerized programs and systems for managing sensitive medical information.
  • Experience in scheduling medical appointments in a clinical setting.

  • Experience working in a healthcare environment with interdisciplinary teams.
