About the position

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CNA) is responsible for providing a full range of anesthesia services within the Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system. This role emphasizes quality, timeliness, and adherence to the VA mission, allowing the CRNA to practice to the full extent of their education, training, and certification. The position requires collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and satisfaction while delivering high-quality anesthetic care.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a variety of health care professionals to achieve common goals for care, safety, and welfare of patients.
  • Foster high levels of confidence and satisfaction among patients and staff, as well as meet and exceed compliance standards.
  • Provide anesthetic services including pre-anesthesia evaluation, anesthesia induction, maintenance, emergence, post-anesthesia care, and emergency response techniques.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive anesthesia plan of care for patients requiring various types of anesthesia.
  • Ensure anesthetic services delivered throughout the facility are of the highest quality to promote patient safety and improve outcomes.
  • Function as a resource for staff education and serve as a preceptor and adjunct clinical faculty for health care trainees.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based practices essential to the delivery of high-quality anesthesia care.
  • Prescribe appropriate preoperative, intra-operative, and postoperative orders and medications.

Requirements

  • Master's or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia from an accredited program.
  • Active, current, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a CNA or equivalent in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
  • Full and current certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in administering anesthetics for complex surgical procedures.
  • Ability to mentor or precept student nurse anesthetists and other healthcare trainees.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement processes in anesthesia care.
