About the position

The Advanced Practice Nurse (Certified Nurse Anesthetist) at the Salisbury Veterans Healthcare System provides a full range of anesthesia services, emphasizing quality and timeliness in alignment with the Veterans Affairs mission. This role involves administering anesthesia in various settings, collaborating with healthcare professionals, and ensuring high standards of patient care and safety. The position requires advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management, with responsibilities that include developing anesthesia care plans and providing education to staff and trainees.

Responsibilities

  • Administers anesthesia in both inpatient and outpatient settings to patients of all health complexities.
  • Collaborates with a variety of health care professionals to achieve common goals for care, safety, and welfare of patients.
  • Fosters high levels of confidence and satisfaction among patients and staff, as well as meet and exceed compliance standards.
  • Provides anesthetic services including pre-anesthesia evaluation, anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence, post-anesthesia care, and emergency response techniques.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive anesthesia plan of care for patients requiring various types of anesthesia.
  • Ensures anesthetic services delivered throughout the facility are of the highest quality to promote patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Functions as a resource for staff education and serves as a preceptor for health care trainees.
  • Develops and implements evidence-based practices essential to the delivery of high-quality anesthesia care.
  • Prescribes appropriate preoperative, intra-operative, and postoperative orders and medications.

Requirements

  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • A master's or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia from an accredited program.
  • Active, current, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a CNA or equivalent in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Full and current certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) or equivalent.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum two years of successful demonstrated experience and practice as a Nurse Anesthetist providing medical care to patients.
