About the position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) at RWJBarnabas Health is responsible for providing primary health care through assessment, diagnosis, clinical judgment, and management to improve the health status of patients. The NP operates independently, following established procedures, and collaborates with physicians and other medical providers to ensure comprehensive patient care. This role includes administering medications, conducting patient evaluations, and maintaining accurate medical records while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Administers injections, immunizations, and oral medications, and starts IVs.
  • Records patient progress notes, issues diagnostic orders, and transcribes orders.
  • Assists with counseling and education functions for patients.
  • Bills for patient services based on CMS and NJ State Board Regulations.
  • Develops plans of care for patients in coordination with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Documents and maintains patient records according to facility and nursing standards.
  • Examines patients to determine the presence of illness and prescribes treatments as indicated.
  • Interviews, instructs, and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention.
  • Issues prescriptions to patients based on Federal & State Regulations.
  • Orders and reviews appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Participates in the development of protocols and reviews lab data.
  • Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
  • Coordinates nursing and training programs on compliance with policies such as HIPAA and OSHA.
  • Maintains the quality and adequacy of nursing practice by reviewing and auditing charts.
  • Sutures wounds, incises and drains wounds, and repairs lacerations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing required.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current NJ state license as a Registered Professional Nurse; CDS and DEA certifications required.
  • CPR certification required.
  • NP Certification required.
