About the position

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) II-III Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Department of Psychiatry at the Veterans Health Administration provides a comprehensive range of mental health services to veterans. This role emphasizes quality care, timely interventions, and the advancement of the VA mission. The NP operates independently, managing a panel of patients with both acute and chronic health conditions, and is responsible for developing individualized care plans, prescribing treatments, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans for optimal population health and disease management.
  • Demonstrate leadership and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Order and interpret labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • Initiate referrals and consults to specialty services.
  • Provide education to patients and their families.
  • Assess and adjust the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Must possess and maintain an active, current, full and unrestricted license to practice as a CNS or equivalent in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States.
  • Must maintain full and current board certification in an area of clinical specialty through a recognized certifying body.
  • Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required.
  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is required.
