About the position

The Advanced Practice Professional in Acute Surgery at Reynolds Memorial Hospital is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients, including assisting in surgical procedures and managing postoperative care. This role requires collaboration with a licensed physician and adherence to hospital policies and medical regulations. The nurse practitioner will perform evaluations, initiate treatment plans, and manage medical emergencies under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as first and second assist on major and minor surgery as directed by the supervising physician in the hospital.
  • Rotates on-call as required for emergent surgeries and responds to trauma pages in the emergency department providing assistance as necessary.
  • Performs history and physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients in the hospital if appropriate.
  • Evaluates patients in the emergency room under supervision of the emergency/trauma center physician and informs attending physician of pertinent findings.
  • Assists in hospital rounds, makes complete entries in the medical record, and writes record progress notes.
  • Initiates appropriate laboratory, radiologic, and special examinations for tests required for the evaluation of illness.
  • Performs clinical procedures under the direction and/or supervision of the supervising physician.
  • Manages medical emergencies and initiates appropriate therapy until the arrival of a physician.
  • Communicates with patients regarding their problems, under the instructions of the supervising physician.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a registered nurse program.
  • Master's degree in nursing required with national certification as a nurse practitioner.
