About the position
The Nurse Practitioner is a professional registered nurse with advanced education and training responsible for providing patient care in collaboration with a licensed physician. This role involves assisting in surgical procedures, providing postoperative care, and performing medical/surgical services in various settings, including the emergency department. The Nurse Practitioner operates within the scope of their supervising physician's qualifications and adheres to the regulations set by the board of medicine and hospital policies.
Responsibilities
- Functions as first and second assist on major and minor surgery as directed by the supervising physician in the hospital.
- Rotates on-call as required for emergent surgeries and responds to trauma pages in the emergency department providing assistance as necessary.
- Performs history and physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients in the hospital if appropriate.
- Establishes a presumptive diagnosis and manages the patient's problems following diagnosis under the physician's supervision.
- Evaluates patients in the emergency room under supervision and assists in developing diagnostic and therapeutic treatment plans.
- Assists in hospital rounds and makes complete entries in the medical record, writing progress notes and recording verbal orders.
- Initiates appropriate laboratory, radiologic, and special examinations for tests required for the evaluation of illness.
- Performs clinical procedures under the direction and/or supervision of the supervising physician.
- Manages medical emergencies and initiates appropriate therapy until the arrival of a physician.
- Communicates with patients regarding their problems, under the instructions of the supervising physician.
Requirements
- Graduate of a registered nurse program.
- Master's degree in nursing required with national certification as a nurse practitioner.
