About the position

The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) in Pulmonology is responsible for the comprehensive management of pulmonary patients, coordinating care among medical specialty teams, and participating in the education of residents and medical/nursing students. The role involves performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, managing discharge planning, and ensuring outpatient management of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Manage comprehensive and individualized care for pulmonary patients and their families during hospitalization and in the ambulatory setting.
  • Complete daily rounds and consults or pre-procedure evaluations.
  • Conduct integrated assessments of patients.
  • Order additional tests or consults in collaboration with pulmonary faculty or following established clinical guidelines.
  • Perform and communicate results of diagnostic tests according to clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
  • Consult and communicate with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in patient evaluations.
  • Document succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master's Degree in Nursing for Nurse Practitioners.
  • National Certification by a recognized APRN Certification Center.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
  • BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
  • Bachelor's Degree as a Medical/Surgical Physician Assistant for Physician Assistants.
  • Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant training program.
  • Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine.
  • BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pulmonary or acute care experience preferred for both Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
  • Eligible new graduates will be considered.
  • ACNPs or FNPs considered for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Bachelor's Degree as Physician Assistant or Master's Degree as Physician Assistant preferred.
