About the position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) at Mile Square Health Center is responsible for delivering high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients of all ages. This role involves working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, performing comprehensive health assessments, developing patient care plans, and managing both acute and chronic health issues. The APP will also engage in teaching, research, and quality improvement initiatives, while adhering to the ethical standards and policies of the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with other providers in the care of patients.
  • Performs accurate history and physical examinations of patients and develops patient care plans.
  • Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice.
  • Prescribes medications and other health aids according to clinical privileges.
  • Integrates evidence-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision-making.
  • Provides comprehensive teaching strategies for patients and their families.
  • Demonstrates excellence in written and verbal communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Participates in program development and quality-improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a nationally accredited APRN or PA training program.
  • Current National Certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP-BC) or as a Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C).
  • Current license as an APRN-CNP or PA-C in the State of Illinois.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Current Controlled Substance licensure and Federal DEA required.
  • Effective communication skills that facilitate therapeutic relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Clinical experience in an emergency medicine, urgent care, or ambulatory care setting is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in an academic medical center preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.
