About the position
The Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) in Emergency Medicine at MUSC Health Marion Medical Center is responsible for delivering direct patient care in the Emergency Department. This role involves evaluating and treating patients, performing diagnostic tests, and collaborating with supervising physicians. The position requires a strong background in emergency medicine and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring high-quality patient care and participation in clinical research and quality improvement activities.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct care to patients through comprehensive history taking and physical examinations.
- Evaluates and treats patients based on diagnostic test results and clinical guidelines.
- Initiates referrals to other healthcare providers and consults with attending or collaborating physicians.
- Documents and bills for direct care provided to patients.
- Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
- Participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
- Supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
- Engages in professional development through participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
- Potential to precept students enrolled as advanced practice provider students.
- Maintains licenses, certifications, and continuing education as required.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant or APRN.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification for adult inpatient positions.
- Preferred: Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Certification.
- Preferred: At least 2 years of Emergency Room experience as a PA or NP.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a high-volume emergency department setting.
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems.
