About the position
The Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing comprehensive mental health care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness and substance abuse disorders across various age groups. This role involves prescribing psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and overseeing clinical case management, while also ensuring continuity of care through collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Provide mental health assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and medication management.
- Secure comprehensive health histories and perform necessary diagnostic tests.
- Prescribe medications and report adverse events as needed.
- Provide direct and indirect patient care to improve health and prevent illness.
- Act as a liaison to community resources and ensure continuity of care for assigned consumers.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary evaluation teams and quality assurance activities.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with regulations.
- Coordinate with nursing staff for consumers receiving medication services.
Requirements
- Master of Science degree in Nursing required.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Wisconsin.
- Certification as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner.
- Current license as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber in Wisconsin.
- Minimum of one year experience in treating severe and persistent mental illness and AODA diagnosis.
- Comprehensive knowledge of psychotropic medications and nursing protocols relevant to community psychiatric nursing.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in treating and prescribing psychotropic medications to children and youth is preferred.
- Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care Principles is essential.
