About the position

The Advanced Practice RN II position involves overseeing and performing advanced clinical medical care under the supervision of a physician. The role requires assessing, planning, and providing comprehensive patient care independently or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The RN will utilize advanced nursing skills, direct medical activities, monitor patient trends, and make recommendations for improvement, all while contributing to a diverse and inclusive work environment dedicated to providing specialized care for Texans in need.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and perform advanced clinical medical care under the supervision of a physician.
  • Assess, plan, and provide comprehensive patient care independently or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
  • Direct medical activities and treatment, monitor trends and activities, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Utilize advanced nursing skills in the treatment and care of patients, including medical assessments and limited prescriptive authority.
  • Provide treatment to HHS employees injured in the course and scope of employment.
  • Conduct daily assessments for acute health problems or injuries in the clinic and/or infirmary.
  • Prescribe medication within the scope of licensure and training.
  • Provide chronic care to individuals, including quarterly assessments and treatment reviews.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests according to procedures and practices.
  • Develop accurate and timely documentation, including dictation of annual summaries and pre-procedural histories.
  • Provide training and/or coaching to nurses and APRN Is.
  • Assign and prioritize work for assigned staff such as nurses and APRN Is.

Requirements

  • Registered nurse in the State of Texas or another state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Certified as an advanced practice registered nurse by the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Must have or can obtain a current registration certificate from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
  • Must obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) and enroll as a Medicaid and Medicare Part B provider within six months of hire.
  • Graduation from an accredited advanced practice registered nurse educational program with a master's degree or higher level.
  • At least 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with 1 year as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) preferred.
  • Experience in supervising or leading the work of others.
