About the position

The Advanced Process Controls and Automation (APC&A) Engineer will be responsible for identifying, prioritizing, executing, and supporting APC applications across multiple gas processing facilities. This role aims to enhance the Advanced Process Controls Network for Phillips 66 Midstream by developing best practices and training site operators on Advanced Control and Optimization applications. The position is based in Denver, CO, and reports to the Manager - Operations Technology, Automation and Systems within the Midstream Center of Excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Partnering with process engineering and site operations to identify, develop, and execute APC applications.
  • Responsible for day-to-day maintenance and benefit sustainment for APC applications at multiple gas processing facilities.
  • Providing consulting services, including training, to operations on improving their advanced applications and ensuring high utilization.
  • Developing and implementing best practice standards for increased long-term effectiveness of APC, multiunit optimization applications, and inferential predictor applications.
  • Traveling to sites as needed to implement and maintain APC applications.
  • Assisting in preparing and issuing quarterly and annual progress reports including key performance metrics.
  • Maintaining, supporting, and troubleshooting interface with base process control systems.
  • Providing consulting services to operations and engineering teams on improving operations and reliability.
  • Vetting software updates from vendors and assisting sites with software upgrades.
  • Participating in APC and process control peer reviews as needed.
  • Helping in the discovery, selection, and implementation of new technologies and practices for Advanced Control and Optimization.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
  • 5 or more years of experience in the field of multivariable process control and optimization.
  • Demonstrated process knowledge in the Natural Gas Cryogenic process.
  • Experience working with Distributed Control Systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering.
  • Gas Processing knowledge with strong understanding of process units, interactions among process units, and business drivers.
  • Knowledge/experience with process control techniques including basic and advanced control design and tuning on major refinery process units.
  • Knowledge/experience with leading APC and Optimization software such as Aspen DMC+/DMC3, Honeywell Profit Suite, Aspen GDOT, Schneider Electric ROMEO, and other similar software.
  • Experience with communications interfaces between APC technology and Distributed Control Systems such as Schneider Electric Foxboro, Emerson Delta V, Honeywell Experion or similar.
  • Knowledge/experience with new machine learning tools used for data analytics and process control such as Python and R.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as work as a part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
