About the position
The Advanced Sensing & Devices Summer Intern position at Nokia Bell Labs offers an opportunity for Ph.D. candidates to engage in cutting-edge research within the Data & Devices Department. Interns will work on innovative projects that integrate AI/ML techniques with advanced sensing technologies, contributing to the development of devices that interface with the physical world and human physiology. This role emphasizes creativity and research contributions that could enhance Nokia's human-centric product offerings.
Responsibilities
- Design and test biosensors for monitoring wound healing progress.
- Develop algorithms and AI/ML approaches for extracting insights from in vivo imaging data.
- Build optical systems using pulsed and tunable laser sources and other optical components.
- Develop a data collection and signal processing software pipeline.
- Build and optimize interferometric assemblies using mechanical alignment tools.
- Design and simulate hardware for backscatter IoT systems.
- Prototype hardware for backscatter communication technologies.
Requirements
- Currently a candidate for a Ph.D. program in a relevant field such as Biochemistry, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Nanotechnology, or Computer Science.
- Experience with biosensing, biomaterials, or synthetic/molecular biology.
- Familiarity with data analytics or machine learning, particularly with volumetric medical imaging.
- Knowledge of free-space and fiber-optic components, and experience in building advanced imaging systems.
- Proficiency in C++, Python, or MATLAB for hardware interfacing and data processing.
- Experience with optical simulations and RF front-end prototyping.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with low-power receiver design and wireless communication algorithms.
- Familiarity with backscatter radio, RFID, IoT systems, and OFDM systems.
