About the position

The Advanced Systems Engineer position in Scottsdale, AZ, is a contract role focused on developing mission-critical systems for national defense. This position plays a vital role in creating state-of-the-art technologies for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance, supporting various branches of the military, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Special Forces, as well as other federal government agencies. The engineer will be involved in a range of activities from requirements analysis to system design and integration, ensuring that the systems developed meet the highest standards of performance and security. In this role, you will participate in comprehensive requirements analysis and management, functional analysis, performance analysis, and system design. You will conduct trade studies and systems integration tests, contributing to the development and evaluation of networks and information systems. The position requires a strong focus on technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability assessments for subsystems and system elements. You will also be responsible for developing system requirements and defining allocations to lower levels, ensuring that all designs comply with applicable governmental security specifications. The Advanced Systems Engineer will engage in modeling and simulation, research vendor products, and analyze data to determine the feasibility of designs. You will support the generation of technical engineering products using appropriate standards and processes throughout the system development life cycle. Additionally, you may provide leadership and direction to lower-level employees, contributing to the completion of major programs and projects while demonstrating advanced decision-making skills. Regular interaction with senior levels of internal working groups and external interfaces will be a key aspect of this role, requiring excellent communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in requirements analysis and management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, systems integration and test (verification) in the development and evaluation of networks and information systems.
  • Perform requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of subsystem or system elements under supervision of the lead systems engineer.
  • Perform technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements.
  • Perform customer requirements analysis, develops system requirements and defines allocations to lower levels (elements and components).
  • Perform detailed technical analyses for a subsystem or system elements.
  • Develop and evaluate systems, networks and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable governmental security specifications.
  • May provide system accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features of the system are considered and function properly.
  • May develop system security documentation on both new and fielded information systems.
  • Participate in Modeling and Simulation.
  • Research and analyze data, such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Support the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle.
  • May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees.
  • Independently determines proposed approach to solutions.
  • Contribute to the completion of major programs and projects.
  • Plan and execute project tasks for activities described above.
  • Define processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility.
  • Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Design a complete and complex framework, system or product.
  • Identify, analyze and resolve system design weaknesses.
  • Regular contact with senior levels of internal working groups.
  • Contact with Deputy Program Managers Engineering (DPME) and other professionals within the Engineering department and with project teams across the company.
  • Coordinate external interfaces and ICDs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field.
  • Agile experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to Obtain Top Secret clearance.
  • Multi-level security domain expertise (and cross-domain).
  • Experience in quickly decomposing requirements to avoid requirements bloat and effectively communicate/track impacts.
  • Familiarity with related organizations such as Iridium, SDA, Northrup, York, and Lockheed.
  • System-level networking expertise, capable of coordinating detailed network design with GFE WAN providers.
  • Ability to manage complexity by understanding what is in scope and what is out of scope.
  • Experience with agile program methodologies.
