About the position

We are seeking a talented Videographer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about creating engaging visual content and possess a strong skill set in branding and creating audio/visual materials that align with the Department of State Health Services goals. Under the general direction of the Deputy Communication Director, the Senior Videographer will play a crucial role in building the DSHS brand and raising awareness of public health issues through high-quality photography and video. This position involves producing content for both internal and external communications, including social media and digital media, and designing communication plans that align with the agency's goals. The candidate will be expected to work independently with significant initiative and judgment, ensuring that all content produced meets the required standards and effectively communicates the intended messages. The essential job functions include planning and creating video and photography content for various platforms, providing consultation to program staff on their video and photography needs, and managing projects that involve creative direction and content development. The videographer will also be responsible for capturing or selecting high-quality photos and videos, ensuring that all content meets accessibility standards. Additionally, the role requires researching and preparing for video and photography assignments, coordinating with DSHS programs and staff on health education and promotion messaging, and collaborating with the Deputy Communications Director and program leads to develop and execute communication plans. Furthermore, the videographer will support other Communication Unit functions, such as social media, marketing research, and internal communications, while ensuring the translation of communications for non-English speaking Texans. The role also involves collaborating with DSHS Web Services and social media teams to ensure timely and accurate posting of information, contributing to internal communications processes and standards, and performing additional duties as needed, including disaster response and recovery support.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and create video and photography content for various platforms, including the DSHS intranet, social media, and web.
  • Provide consultation to program staff on video and photography needs.
  • Manage projects, including creative direction and content development.
  • Capture or select high-quality photos and videos, ensuring content meets accessibility standards.
  • Research and prepare for video and photography assignments.
  • Coordinate with DSHS programs and staff on health education and promotion messaging.
  • Work with the Deputy Communications Director and program leads to develop and execute communication plans.
  • Collaborate with HHSC Communications on initiatives.
  • Support other Communication Unit functions, such as social media, marketing research, and internal communications.
  • Coordinate with DSHS Media Relations, Government Affairs, and stakeholder relations.
  • Ensure translation of communications for non-English speaking Texans.
  • Collaborate with DSHS Web Services and social media teams to ensure timely and accurate posting of information.
  • Contribute to internal communications processes and standards.
  • Perform additional duties as needed, including disaster response and recovery support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Required).
  • 3 years of experience in content creation (Required).
  • 3 years of experience in branding (Required).
  • 3 years of experience in video and photography (Preferred).
  • 3 years of experience in designing communication plans (Preferred).
  • 3 years of experience in producing content for social media & photography assignments (Preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with special effects and green-screen techniques.
  • Strong organizational, writing, and presentation skills for visual information.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
