About the position

Save the Children seeks an Advisor, Humanitarian Assistance Analyst to support the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) 8 Decision Support Contract. This full-time position is for a duration of 18 months, with a possibility for extension, and is contingent upon the execution of a sub-contract between Save the Children and the Contractor. The Humanitarian Assistance Analyst will focus on global analysis of humanitarian food assistance, including the collection, collation, organization, and analysis of data related to global humanitarian food assistance operations. The role involves assisting with the development of assumptions on global humanitarian food assistance operations and providing targeted support for the review of these assumptions across countries for consistency. The Analyst will also assist in refining FEWS NET's guidance and tools for humanitarian food assistance information collection and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting, collating, organizing, and analyzing data and information related to global humanitarian food assistance operations
  • Assisting with development of assumptions on global humanitarian food assistance operations
  • Providing targeted support for development of humanitarian food assistance assumptions and review of these assumptions across countries for consistency
  • Assisting with deep dives of humanitarian food assistance analysis in targeted geographies
  • Developing, reviewing, and refining FEWS NET guidance and tools for humanitarian food assistance information collection and analysis
  • Coordinating with the Humanitarian Assistance Senior Specialist on the Decision Support team's technical needs
  • Contributing input on key technical matters to inform Decision Support leadership decision-making regarding priorities and functionality
  • Collaborating with members of the FEWS NET Decision Support team to ensure coordination on delivery of data and data analysis products
  • Engaging with key members of the relief agency community to identify and secure data sharing agreements on humanitarian food assistance
  • Participating in discussions through multi-lateral fora to encourage sharing of humanitarian food assistance information

Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Education and experience in a discipline relevant to food security
  • At least two years of directly relevant experience with food security analysis and/or humanitarian food assistance operations
  • Knowledge of humanitarian food assistance operations through government, UN, NGO, and other agencies
  • Familiarity with key multi-partner response coordination mechanisms, such as food security clusters and logistics clusters
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English

Nice-to-haves

  • French and/or Spanish and/or Arabic language skills
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or higher) in a discipline relevant to the work of FEWS NET
  • Experience with data management systems in a humanitarian setting
  • Familiarity with scenario development or similar assumptions-based projections analysis
  • Previous experience living and working in a region or country where FEWS NET project staff work
  • Prior experience with USAID-funded programs
