About the position

The Advisor I, Program Mental Health is responsible for overseeing the mental health content area of the Save the Children Oklahoma Head Start program. This role involves working closely with the Oklahoma Head Start Program Director and the content area management team to promote children's mental health, social and emotional well-being, and safety. The Advisor ensures the implementation of mental and behavioral health program services in accordance with Head Start regulations and other state and federal requirements. The position aims to foster nurturing environments that support the mental wellness of children, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Implement mental health program policies and procedures under the supervision of the Senior Advisor, Mental Health.
  • Conduct regular visits to each site and classroom to perform observations and provide training and technical assistance.
  • Facilitate the individual behavior support process and ensure compliance with the Behavior Guidance Policy.
  • Ensure psychological diagnostic evaluations occur for children when needed and make appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitate training for staff related to developmental and social-emotional screening and behavioral health.
  • Provide parent training and individual consultation to support children's development.
  • Coordinate with program director and other managers to develop training for high-quality service delivery.
  • Build and enhance the network of mental health service providers for low-income families.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance activities including monitoring and program reviews.
  • Participate in Health and Family Services Advisory Committees and support local staff's participation in coordination councils.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree and licensed in accordance with the state mental/behavioral health professional licensing agency.
  • Demonstrated experience providing mental and behavior health services.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards and health services for young children.
  • Experience developing supportive relationships with young children.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, children, and parents.
  • Successful problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office Suite and written/spoken English.
