About the position

The Advocacy Supervisor at Voices for Children plays a crucial role in overseeing and supporting volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) who advocate for children in foster care. This position ensures that the needs of both the children and the volunteers are met, while also maintaining compliance with organizational policies. The supervisor is responsible for training, evaluating, and providing ongoing support to CASAs, as well as representing the organization in court when necessary. This role is integral to the mission of transforming the lives of abused children by ensuring they receive the advocacy and support they need.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the dependency children assigned to CASA volunteers receive the advocacy they need.
  • Ensure that the children's best interests are presented to the Court by CASA volunteers.
  • Meet the needs of the volunteers and provide them with support.
  • Ensure that the policies and procedures of VFC are followed by all volunteers.
  • Carry out all assigned responsibilities and assist with volunteer recruitment, training, and retention efforts.
  • Promote the mission of Voices for Children in the community.
  • Maintain an ongoing caseload involving approximately 40-50 CASAs.
  • Provide supervision and support to CASAs in the exercise of their duties.
  • Establish at least monthly contact with all volunteers and maintain detailed records concerning all contact with volunteers and other parties involved in a child's case.
  • Conduct annual evaluations with each volunteer and provide a written record of the evaluation in the volunteer file.
  • Provide support to other Advocacy Supervisors and the volunteer recruitment and training staff as needed.
  • Participate in the volunteer candidate interview, screening, and selection process.
  • Attend and support CASAs at team meetings and Individualized Education Program meetings.
  • Review, edit, and approve the accuracy and appropriateness of the CASAs' court reports and related communications to the Court and agencies.
  • Assist in the implementation and evaluation of the VFC strategic plan.
  • Facilitate and/or instruct volunteer training and participate in the development and evaluation of volunteer training and continuing education curriculum.
  • Attend court hearings with or in place of CASA volunteers as necessary to advise the Court as to the status of a child.

Requirements

  • College Degree or equivalent experience in volunteer management, social work, case management, program development, or related field in the public and/or non-profit sector.
  • Proficient with current Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Willingness to learn and desire to grow professionally.
  • Access to reliable transportation for frequent travel throughout Riverside County and occasional travel to San Diego County.
