About The Position

The Advocate position at WestCare Foundation involves providing support for medical services, assisting with treatment plans, and conducting follow-ups for individuals receiving outpatient mental health services. The role requires coordination with medical staff, maintaining patient records, and ensuring compliance with state regulations. The Advocate will also engage in direct patient interactions and assist in various administrative tasks within a nonprofit social services environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One year of experience working in a medical office is required.
  • Six months of experience working in a Mental Health/Substance Abuse agency is preferred.
  • Bilingual is preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health terminology and medical terminology is required.
  • Ability to react appropriately in a Medical/Psychiatric emergency.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion for consumers during Med/Psych crises.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Professional Ethics, Consumer Rights, and Confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in Addiction Counseling, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology or related social science field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with WestCare services and programs.
  • Understanding of issues related to cultural identity, ethnic background, age, developmental level, gender, and sexual orientation in prevention, intervention, and treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with doctors and participate in medical treatment planning and reviews.
  • Order medications as requested by medical staff/doctor.
  • Maintain medication inventory and record/maintain medication samples and IDP.
  • Complete required state and intake paperwork.
  • Back up front office/reception, assist with scheduling appointments, super bills/payments, and answering phones.
  • Complete and comply with requests for records.
  • Maintain the patient's chart in compliance with State, CARF, Medicaid, and other rules and standards.
  • Attend and participate in training activities, staff meetings, and supervisory sessions.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities and committee assignments as requested.
  • Communicate effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Organize, interpret, and communicate data in a comprehensive manner.
  • Assist in taking vitals of patients and prepping them for appointments.
  • Assist psychiatrist as needed and participate in case conferences.
  • Complete all orientation and mandated training activities within required timeframes.
