About the position

The Advocate plays a crucial role in supporting medical services by assisting with treatment plans, conducting patient follow-ups, and managing various administrative tasks related to mental health services. This part-time position involves direct interaction with patients, coordination with medical staff, and ensuring compliance with state regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with doctors and participate in medical treatment planning and reviews.
  • Consult with each patient concerning attainment of treatment plan goals and objectives.
  • Order medications as requested by medical staff/doctor.
  • Maintain medication inventory and record/maintain medication samples and IDP.
  • Complete required state and intake paperwork.
  • Back up front office/reception by assisting with scheduling appointments, super bills/payments, and answering phones.
  • Complete and comply with requests for records.
  • Maintain the patient's chart in compliance with State, CARF, Medicaid, and other rules and standards.
  • Attend and participate in training activities, staff meetings, and supervisory sessions.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities and committee assignments as requested.
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Organize, interpret, and communicate data in a comprehensive and effective manner.
  • Assist in taking vitals of patients and prepping them for appointments.
  • Assist psychiatrist as needed and participate in case conferences.
  • Complete all orientation and mandated training activities within required timeframes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalence issued by a state department of education is required.
  • One (1) year of experience working in a medical office is required.
  • Six (6) months of experience working in a Mental Health/Substance Abuse agency is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of behavioral health terminology and medical terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to react appropriately in a Medical/Psychiatric emergency.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion for consumers during Med/Psych crises.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Professional Ethics, Consumer Rights, and Confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in Addiction Counseling, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology or related social science field is preferred.
  • Bilingual is preferred.
  • Familiarity with WestCare services and programs.
  • Understanding of issues related to cultural identity, ethnic background, age, developmental level, gender, and sexual orientation in prevention, intervention, and treatment.
