About the position

The Payroll Garnishment Specialist is responsible for managing and processing all payroll garnishments for employees at Albertsons Companies. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The position is based in Phoenix, AZ, and involves handling various garnishments such as wage attachments, child support orders, and tax levies, while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Process all payroll garnishments in a timely and accurate manner, including wage attachments, child support orders, tax levies, and other court-ordered deductions.
  • Review accuracy and validity to ensure all necessary documentation is obtained and maintained.
  • Calculate and deduct the appropriate amount from employees' paychecks in accordance with regulations.
  • Communicate with employees, payroll vendors, and government agencies to resolve any discrepancies or issues.
  • Update payroll records and systems to reflect garnishment deductions and ensure accurate reporting to tax authorities and other relevant parties.
  • Collaborate with HR, legal, and finance departments to address any concerns and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Assist with audits and inquiries related to garnishments and provide support as needed to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Complete year-end tasks as assigned.
  • Ensure timely completion of error/defect-free work.

Requirements

  • Experience with multi-state garnishments for federal and state laws.
  • Effective communication skills to respond professionally to inquiries from employees, creditors, child support agencies, and attorneys.
  • Willingness to cross-train for special projects related to payroll and special deduction processing.
  • Basic knowledge of payroll or absence management processing, labor contracts, garnishments, and federal and state labor regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of PeopleSoft HRMS applications, including payroll, contracts, absence management, and queries.
  • Ability to grasp moderately complex processing tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel.
  • Excellent mathematical and calculation skills.
  • Strong sense of urgency.
  • Knowledge of payroll wage and tax laws.
  • One to three years of payroll experience in a highly automated payroll, Human Resources, or accounting environment, preferably in a large organization.
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Any financial/payroll/tax-related training is a plus in formal classes or seminars.
