The ideal candidate for the Videographer & Reporter position is a team player who enjoys capturing news video using HD equipment while simultaneously reporting to a live audience. This role requires the ability to multitask effectively, as the candidate will film, report, and communicate with a behind-the-scenes support team to produce captivating news coverage. The candidate must thrive in dynamic environments and be comfortable performing in front of an audience. They should possess both artistic and technical skills to operate camera equipment confidently and speak to a live audience in an ad-hoc, unscripted manner with charisma and personality. In this position, you will work in a live environment, stationed at our Los Angeles-based hangar, collaborating with the news desk and aerial team. You will listen for breaking news on police/fire scanners and, upon receiving alerts, you and your pilot will be dispatched into a helicopter to report on the scene. Your responsibilities will include using aerial navigation and mapping software for reference, capturing focused and relevant scenes of news as it unfolds, and providing live reporting and narration of events on screen. Your narration must be compelling, factual, and delivered with personality and purpose, while also maintaining communication with the news desk, operations, ground support, and a live TV audience simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Capture news video on HD equipment while reporting to a live audience.
• Listen for breaking news on police/fire scanners and respond accordingly.
• Use aerial navigation and mapping software for reference during reporting.
• Simultaneously provide live reporting and narration of unfolding events.
• Communicate effectively with the news desk, operations, ground support, and a live TV audience.

Requirements

• PhotoJournalism experience and/or education.
• Demonstrated technical experience operating camera equipment or ability to learn new equipment.
• Experience using Microwave Radio technology for communications.
• Understanding of video recording equipment and accuracy in reporting with journalistic integrity.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge of the Southern California area with emphasis on maps and navigation.
• Ability to summarize information into easy-to-understand components.
• Ability to work in a physical environment requiring a mix of activity: walking, bending, standing, sitting for prolonged periods, lifting 30lbs.

Nice-to-haves

• Degree in journalism or a related field (preferred but not required).
• Previous experience in news reporting or writing.
