About the position

The Principal Aero Controls Modeling Engineer at GE Gas Power is responsible for providing technical leadership in the development and adaptation of transient models for Aero Package Software. This role involves driving customer fulfillment excellence, leading complex design projects, and collaborating with global technology teams to enhance Aero engineering processes and control systems. The position requires a strong focus on modeling, software configuration, and project management to ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high fidelity models for bleed and variable geometry actuation, fuel system actuation, and gas volume dynamics.
  • Implement a genetic optimization algorithm to characterize high fidelity models to a specific engine.
  • Review, analyze, and test field data to adapt NPSS steady state performance models for transient capabilities.
  • Develop a Simulink-NPSS simulation environment for Aero Engines.
  • Adapt existing Fortran based models into Simulink based models for deployment on a MarkVIe.
  • Participate in software configuration development for testing support and data acquisition.
  • Assist in performance matching of models versus field data.
  • Identify and mitigate technical and schedule risks across the complete Controls Scope.
  • Support ITO/Proposal efforts and lead in an Agile software methodology.
  • Define and manage overall Control System Requirements, architecture, and top-level design.
  • Ensure system function, performance, reliability, maintainability, and safety requirements are met.
  • Support comprehensive test plans for system verification and validation, including Software Acceptance Tests (SwATs).
  • Coordinate flow down of internal and external customer requirements and tasks.
  • Lead customer discussions for improved controls solutions and customer experience.
  • Establish Controls credibility and brand while managing cost and schedule targets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Control, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related Engineering.
  • 10-12 years of experience in Core & GT Operability with expertise in MarkVIe, Simulink, and other control platforms.
  • Proficiency in software tools development using Matlab, Fortran, and C++.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in design and application of power generation controls, electrical, or accessory systems.
  • Knowledge of Aerospace Core software design practices and technical writing expertise.
  • 10+ years of controls system integration experience with Aero Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, and/or Plant controls knowledge.
