About the position

Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is seeking a Summer 2025 Masters or PhD Aeronautical Engineer intern for Weapons Integration. This role involves supporting the integration of Laser Weapon Systems onto platforms, including research, analysis, design, and testing of mechanical and fluid systems. The intern will work closely with system engineering to define requirements, develop engineering drawings, and support integration and flight tests, ensuring program objectives are met through troubleshooting and technical expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Support Laser Weapon System / Platform Integration.
  • Conduct research, define, analyze, develop, and design mechanical and fluid systems.
  • Provide technical supplier management, test, and qualify systems.
  • Perform requirements definition in coordination with system engineering.
  • Develop, review, and maintain engineering drawings and models.
  • Support integration and flight test, production, and sustainment activities.
  • Troubleshoot and provide subject matter expertise to assist in maintenance and delivery of technical data.
  • Mentor others and nurture technical competency within the discipline.

Requirements

  • Pursuing Master's or PhD degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Classwork in Mechanics, Dynamics, and Physics.
  • Must be a US Citizen; this position requires a government security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with lasers, optics, and power/thermal management.
  • Interest in systems engineering, requirements flowdown/management/verification, and hardware/software integration.
