About the position

The Aeronautics Instructor (PT) position at Solano Community College involves teaching part-time in the Aircraft Maintenance, Power Plant Maintenance, and Avionics areas. The instructor will prepare students for certification by the Federal Aviation Administration and will be responsible for providing quality education while maintaining effective communication with students and faculty. The role requires flexibility in scheduling, including evening and weekend classes, and may involve off-campus instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in accordance with established program course outlines of record.
  • Inform and advise students about program requirements.
  • Evaluate and provide timely verbal and written assessments of student performance.
  • Prepare and grade assignments and examinations.
  • Meet administrative timelines and submit completed reports and required documents.
  • Maintain required student attendance, scholastic records, and other related materials.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining a quality aviation training program at the College.
  • Support students' academic success by maintaining regular office hours and advising students.
  • Use technology in the academic environment to enhance student learning.
  • Participate in college-wide committee work and collegial governance.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills in the areas of assignment.
  • Assist with program recruitment, including traveling to high schools and career fairs.
  • Evaluate, develop, or modify curriculum to reflect current standards of aviation.
  • Work effectively with colleagues and students and be a contributing member of the campus community.
  • Maintain positive and effective communications with students, faculty, administration, and staff.
  • Work effectively with industry leaders in both management and labor.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including operating an Aeronautics lab and maintaining equipment.

Requirements

  • Experience in teaching or training in aeronautics or related fields.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration certification requirements.
  • Ability to evaluate and assess student performance effectively.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with students, faculty, and industry leaders.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development.
