About the position

The Engineering Intern for Summer 2025 at Leidos will work within the Autonomy and Artificial Intelligence branch, focusing on solving complex engineering problems in aerospace and defense. Interns will engage in hands-on research and development, contributing to ongoing projects while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of experts. This role emphasizes the application of engineering, AI/ML, and software skills to create innovative solutions, with opportunities for personal and professional growth throughout the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop solutions to aerospace and defense problems using engineering, AI/ML, and software skills.
  • Work on open-ended research problems related to ongoing projects.
  • Utilize and develop technical skills in areas such as dynamical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization.
  • Implement solutions in software using programming languages like Python.
  • Collaborate with peers and experienced professionals, leveraging internal resources.
  • Learn independently and work closely with a mentor throughout the internship.
  • Showcase experience and work in company-wide events and formal presentations.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Advanced proficiency in programming, specifically in Python and MATLAB.
  • Fundamental understanding of mathematical concepts including linear algebra, matrix math, statistics, trigonometry, and coordinate frames.
  • Understanding of core aerospace concepts such as vehicle and attitude dynamics, control systems, and flight mechanics.
  • Knowledge of machine learning basics, supervised learning, reinforcement learning, and statistics.
  • Ability to perform independent research to learn new skills.
  • Ability to work in collaborative team environments and independently on open-ended research problems.
  • Effective technical communication skills.
  • Must be a resident of North Alabama area or willing to relocate to Huntsville, AL office.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with CI Poly clearance.
  • Must be a United States Citizen.
