About the position

The Aerospace Engineer position within the Systems Engineering and Education Development (SEED) Program at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center is designed to develop engineers into fully qualified Systems Engineers. This role involves collaboration with scientists and engineers to create mission and instrument architectures, conduct engineering trade studies, and lead technical teams across multiple disciplines to ensure mission success. The position offers opportunities for professional growth through a structured curriculum, on-the-job development, and mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to develop feasible mission and instrument architectures.
  • Conduct engineering trade studies to mature mission and instrument concepts.
  • Lead the overall technical team across multiple disciplines, providing direction and identifying risks.
  • Manage the technical baseline by establishing and managing requirements and technical resources.
  • Plan and perform verification and validation of the system.
  • Define tests and analyses necessary to demonstrate the system meets its requirements and science objectives.
  • Evaluate test and analysis artifacts from verification and validation plan execution.
  • Lead the technical team through system-level integration and test and early flight operations.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence, and innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, or Computer Science from an accredited institution.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level for GS-13 applicants.
  • Experience in at least two phases of the development cycle for GS-13 applicants.
  • Leadership experience with moderate complexity for GS-14 applicants.
  • Expertise in leading a complex, multidisciplinary team for GS-15 applicants.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with risk mitigation strategies.
  • Familiarity with new technology infusion in aerospace engineering.
