About the position

As the Portable Life Support System (PLSS) Development and Test Lead in the Space Suit and Crew Survival Systems Branch, you will provide technical leadership to the PLSS design and development engineering team. This role supports advanced exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) projects and related technology development projects, leading teams in developing technology, architecture, operational concepts, flight designs, and tests in support of NASA's human spaceflight missions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and technical direction for all phases of project lifecycle including concept of operations, requirements, architecture, design, implementation, integration, testing, operations, and sustaining engineering for assigned projects.
  • Manage day-to-day activities and decisions regarding staffing levels to accomplish engineering work, detailed work planning and coordination, resolving problems, and presenting, defending, and interpreting policy and program aspects for projects.
  • Establish and approve requirements for the design, testing, and certification of project systems, subsystems, and/or components.
  • Manage scope of work, risk management and mitigation, overall schedule and budget, and resources to meet established milestones.
  • Use specialized knowledge of space suit Portable Life Support System environmental control systems hardware to identify technical requirements for ground testing of space suit hardware systems.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence and innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, or Computer Science from an accredited institution.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, including leading interdisciplinary development, design, test, and verification activities.
  • Experience in providing engineering leadership for hardware development and technical resource management throughout the hardware development life cycle.
  • Experience in testing space suit Portable Life Support System hardware in laboratory and flight-environment simulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with NASA's human spaceflight missions.
  • Knowledge of environmental control and life support systems.
