About the position

Moog Space and Defense Group is seeking a Senior Engineering Design Drafter to join their team in Chatsworth, California. This position is integral to the design and development of mechanisms for spacecraft motion control, a field in which Moog has a rich heritage dating back to historic programs like Apollo and Pioneer. The Senior Design Drafter will report to the Product Assurance Lead and will be responsible for performing conceptual design development tasks utilizing engineering design principles. This role requires a strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management for solid modeling and drafting. The successful candidate will work independently or collaboratively with engineers to generate dimensional and functional specifications for vendor-supplied components, ensuring that all designs meet the high-performance standards expected in aerospace applications. In this role, the Senior Design Drafter will also direct other drafting personnel in the completion of assignments, present design results for review, and substantiate the soundness of designs through discussions of assumptions, constraints, and analyses. The position involves close collaboration with Development, Product, and Manufacturing Methods Engineers, as well as outside vendors during the product design phase. The work environment is onsite in Chatsworth, CA, and the role is expected to contribute significantly to the innovative projects that support both commercial and government flight programs. Responsibilities

  • Perform conceptual design development tasks utilizing engineering design principles and experience to define and document the product design process.
  • Utilize Siemens NX and Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management for solid modeling and drafting; fluency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing is essential.
  • Generate dimensional and functional specifications for vendor supplied components, working independently or with an Engineer.
  • Direct other drafting personnel in the completion of assignments.
  • Present design results for review and substantiate soundness of design through discussion of assumptions, constraints and analyses used.
  • Collaborate with Development, Product and Manufacturing Methods Engineers as well as outside vendors during the product design phase.

Requirements

  • Two-year Engineering degree, Mechanical Drafting or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • 10 years or more related design experience.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
  • Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management for solid modeling and drafting is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient with computer programs (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
