About the position

The AFCAP V Japan BOS: SCS Lead Maintenance Technician position at KBR involves providing essential maintenance and repair services in support of the U.S. Air Force at the Kyogamisaki and Shariki Communications Sites in Japan. This role is critical to ensuring the operational readiness and functionality of various systems and equipment, including HVAC, refrigeration, and food service equipment. The technician will work under limited supervision to inspect, diagnose, and perform emergency and preventive maintenance on a wide range of equipment and facilities. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing freezer and refrigeration units, HVAC systems, and general facility maintenance tasks such as painting, flooring, and signage installation. The technician will also be responsible for inspecting and maintaining commercial kitchen exhaust systems and fire extinguishers, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards. In addition to technical skills, the role requires the ability to manage and operate material handling equipment, perform corrosion control measures, and participate in morale and welfare activities. The technician will also be involved in logistical tasks, such as mail delivery and shopping for site-operated kiosks. This position is vital for maintaining the quality of life and operational efficiency at the base, contributing to the overall mission success in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform emergency/preventive maintenance on HVAC/R systems and other equipment.
  • Perform general preventative maintenance tasks on assigned HVAC units and power generation equipment.
  • Maintain and operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and manlifts.
  • Conduct corrosion control measures on site structures and facilities.
  • Inspect and maintain commercial kitchen hood and duct exhaust systems.
  • Repair and maintain the site's mechanical locks and signage.
  • Complete and review maintenance records and perform cleanup activities.
  • Drive company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery runs.

Requirements

  • US Citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one prior to deployment.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification or ability to obtain it within 30 days of arrival.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/R systems, controls, and components.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to interpret drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with specific HVAC equipment such as the 5-Ton Environmental Control Unit (ECU).
