About the position

The AFCAP V Japan BOS: SCS Lead Maintenance Technician position at KBR involves providing essential maintenance and repair services in support of the U.S. Air Force at the Kyogamisaki and Shariki Communications Sites in Japan. This role is critical to ensuring the operational readiness and functionality of various systems and equipment, contributing to the overall mission of the INDOPACOM area of responsibility. The technician will work under limited supervision to inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform emergency and preventive maintenance on a wide range of equipment, including HVAC systems, refrigeration units, food service equipment, and general facility maintenance tasks. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical locks, inspecting fire extinguishers, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. In addition to technical skills, the role requires a strong understanding of environmental regulations related to fuels, refrigerants, and hazardous materials. The technician will be expected to maintain accurate records, manage tools and equipment, and participate in various cleanup activities. The job may involve moderate to heavy lifting, and adherence to safety protocols is paramount. The technician will also act as a key person for Maximo and HAZMAT/HAZWASTE management, ensuring that all hazardous materials are handled and disposed of correctly. The position includes additional responsibilities such as performing corrosion control measures, operating material handling equipment, and participating in the Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule. The technician will also be responsible for driving company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery, as well as shopping for site-operated kiosks. This multifaceted role requires a proactive approach to maintenance and a commitment to supporting the mission of KBR and the U.S. Air Force.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform emergency/preventive maintenance on HVAC/R systems and other equipment.
  • Maintain and repair freezer and refrigeration units, food service equipment, appliances, and fitness equipment.
  • Perform general facility maintenance tasks including painting, finishes, and roof systems.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain commercial kitchen hood and duct exhaust systems.
  • Maintain and repair the site's mechanical locks and signage.
  • Inspect fire extinguishers and make repair/replacement recommendations.
  • Act as Maximo and HAZMAT/HAZWASTE key person.
  • Perform corrosion control measures on site structures.
  • Operate and maintain assigned material handling equipment (MHE) and snow removal equipment.
  • Drive company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery runs.

Requirements

  • US Citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one prior to deployment.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification or ability to obtain it within 30 days of arrival.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/R systems, controls, and components.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment.
