About the position

The AFCAP V Japan BOS: SCS Lead Maintenance Technician position at KBR involves providing essential maintenance and repair services in support of the U.S. Air Force at the Kyogamisaki and Shariki Communications Sites in Japan. This role is critical in ensuring that mission-critical operations continue without disruption, particularly in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility. The technician will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including the maintenance and repair of various equipment such as HVAC systems, refrigeration units, food service equipment, and general facility maintenance. The position requires a proactive approach to diagnosing and repairing issues, performing emergency and preventive maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards. Under limited supervision, the technician will inspect, diagnose, and repair equipment, determining necessary replacement parts and maintaining records of work performed. The role also includes responsibilities such as cleaning and maintaining commercial kitchen exhaust systems, inspecting fire extinguishers, and making recommendations for repairs or replacements. The technician will be expected to perform moderate to heavy lifting and adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment. In addition to technical skills, the technician will act as a key person for Maximo and HAZMAT/HAZWASTE management, perform preventative maintenance on HVAC units and other structures, and operate various material handling and grass cutting equipment. The role also involves participating in the Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule and driving company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery runs. This position is ideal for individuals with a strong background in HVAC/R systems and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform emergency/preventive maintenance on various equipment.
  • Maintain and repair freezer and refrigeration units, food service equipment, HVAC systems, and general facility maintenance.
  • Determine replacement parts as needed and maintain records of work performed.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain commercial kitchen hood and duct exhaust systems.
  • Repair, maintain, fabricate, and install base signage and inspect fire extinguishers.
  • Perform installation, operation, maintenance, repairs, and disposal of HVAC/R systems.
  • Complete and review records, maintain tools and equipment, and perform cleanup activities.
  • Act as Maximo and HAZMAT/HAZWASTE key person and perform general preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Operate and maintain material handling equipment, grass cutting equipment, and snow removal equipment.
  • Drive company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery runs.

Requirements

  • US Citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one prior to deployment.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification or ability to obtain it within 30 days of arrival.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/R systems, controls, and components.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and rewiring of HVAC equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the 5-Ton Environmental Control Unit (ECU) built by Alaska Structures Incorporated.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and schematics.
